Bright as Day

Well Ladies, it's time for another challenge over at the AiFactory Challenge Blog!

This weeks challenge is called Bright as Day and we want to see all your bright and funky projects! The challenge rules are easy: you can enter as many times as you would like as long as you create a new project each time.  It can be entered along with as many challenges as you like as well.  You will have until 11:59EST on Wednesday April 4th to upload your entries :)

You don't have to use one of the AiF images but we would love it if you did and you get an extra entry to win. Unfortunately, the store is temporarily off line as it is undergoing some site maintenance, so you can grab the Freebie that Tammy posted for you on the challenge blog in the mean time.

The DT were given the Ella in the clouds image to work with this week and what fun was had by all! Make sure you take the time to check out what all the ladies made :) You can find her at the store here (when the site is running again). I'll have to add the preview of the digi to this post once I can get the watermarked one from the store, in the mean time you can see what she looks like on my project :)

I must admit that my crafty mojo seemed to be lacking a bit in this project and I struggled for an idea! In the end I decided to make myself a bookmark, I can never get enough of them :) And I find they are so expensive in the stores.
I coloured Ella with pencil crayons and sharpies, cut her out and adhered her to a piece of blue cardstock. I then punched the corners of the cardstock with my corner punch to give it a softer look.
I then picked up my trusty white gel pen and stitched around both Ella and the edges of the cardstock. Anything else and I think it would have detracted from the image and looked too busy. I'm all about clean lines it seems...
I then stapled on a piece of ribbon (which was chosen for it's white stitch) at the top of the bookmark to finish it all off.

Tada! Now show me how its done and create something smashing! Hope you all have Terrific Thursday!

Blogland love

I arrived home from work yesterday afternoon to find an envelope in the postbox addressed to little ole me :) The sender was Claire Easson (My fantastic blogger friend!) and I couldn't help but wonder why she had sent me something and not told me about it!

Until I read the card that is :) Remember the pay it forward post I had on here a few weeks back? Well, I originally responded to Claire's pay it forward post and this was her papercraft gift to me :) I was so chuffed!

And you can even see how C made this card here! Isn't she talented? Her colouring is just out of this world, hubby and I both thought that it was so well coloured it looked printed!

C, thank you so much my friend, It's perfectly Girlie enough for me :)

P.S. Notice how the colours of the card perfectly match my blog? Had to be part of your brilliance!

Flower power

Hello there everyone :)

I have a very simple card to show you today. I needed a card in a hurry so came up with this....

The base of the card is compliments of a scrap I had from a project i was working on a while back, while the green and pink flower pattern is compliments of the paper pad Claire Easson sent me for my birthday :) Thanks C! The tiny pink flower pattern is from my scrap stash.

The flower embellishment is from a set of die cut embellies I bought really cheap many moons ago and I love how the colours pull everything together. I can't tell you who made it except that it comes from china :) Of course, the dotted ribbon comes out of my stash too.

I did my faux stitch trick along the edge of the green and pink flower pattern, I really must take the time to stitch by hand... one day, one day.....

And there you have it! my quick and easy card :) Not sure it's my favourite card ever made, but it will do. Hope you'll have a Terrific Tuesday! It looks set to be rainy day here...now if only my boss could give me the day off and let me go home to craft...

Love Bug

Hi Ladies!

Ok, so you all know my favourite new stamp and you can't blame me for using it on yet another card :)
This one was made for a friend of mine, whose kitchen tea is this Saturday...

I ventured into unknown territory in my crafting skills and decided I was going to try and make an easel card. It was so exciting to work it out! I went off memory of some creations I've seen before so wasn't entirely sure of how to go about putting this one together.

I think I'll start by showing you a few details:

As mentioned, I used my new favourite stamp by TAC. I stamped it onto pink cardstock and coloured with Sharpies. I then layered the image onto two different pieces of pattern and faux stitched with a Steadler fine tip.

I just love these flowers in my stash, they already have the bling stuck to the centres so it makes for much less work!

The front of the card looks like this:

I love the sentiment! it is just too cute how it finishes :)

It says, "Heard you got bit by the ... Love Bug!". Don't you just love that? The card in its entirety looks like this:

Hope you enjoyed my card adventure :) and that your week ahead will be wonderfully blessed!

Floral Frou Frou

Morning everyone! Can you believe we have another weekend on our doorstep? I'm so excited!

Todays post brings a really elegant card and its without any bows....doesn't seem like it could fit the description of the title does it? I had this gorgeous paper in my stash that I just had to use and it so reminds me of the wallpaper you see in victorian set movies....

I also managed to use something that has been in my embellishment stash for like the last two years! There are still many of them but at least I finally found a way to use them :) They are crafting tiles and stick quite nicely with a bit of glue on the back. I often wonder what on earth must have been going on in my head when I bought these :)

I inked all edges in roan by colourbox, and joined the 'seam' between the pattern and plain with a length of ribbon. The sentiment is actually printed and was from a card class I did yonks ago!

I hope you'll all have a great weekend and a Fantastical Friday!

Under the Weather

It's time for a new AiFactory challenge!

This week's challenge theme is Under the Weather and I'd say it definitely calls for a get well soon card and a little treat to make you feel better :)

Before I get to the card and treat, remember to upload your own entries at the AiFactory Challenge Blog. You dont have to use an AiFactory image, but you could find some freebies at the store here.

The image set that the DT was given to work with this week is called Little Doctor, it can be found at the store here. It's an amazing set that includes 12 elements! Imagine what you could do with it :) A sneak of what it looks like:

So, on to what I created with the set.....

The card was made using plain white cardstock and a single image from the set. I decided that the ambulance would be really cute! It's a bit of a CAS card but the white on white really works for me. I didnt ink any of the edges in order to keep it clean and crisp looking. The sentiment is by the Angel Company and was inked with black StazOn.

I raised the ambulance on some foam in order to give it a bit more dimension, else it would have looked a bit stark.

The treat I bought for this project is actually a very large marshmellow shaped in the form of a heart. But it looked like a big lollipop :) and I thought it would be perfect! I used the Ouch graphic from the set and layered it onto a red and then blue DP. A folded ribbon between the actual image and the red DP just added a bit more detail. I then tied the same patterned ribbon around the stem of the treat.

There you have it! A fantastic get well card and gift for someone in need :) Go on to the blog and check out the wonderful creations by the DT, those ladies really rock! Hope to see you join in on the challenge!

Have a Happy Day!

Here in SA it feels like we are enjoying the last days of our summer when in fact we have already started to shift over into Autumn! Brrrrr, the cold is on its way!
So, in tribute to our fast fading fun days I made a card J A bright and shiny happy card! I must admit that no scrap paper was used in this one (sorry AM!), but will redeem myself by letting you know that my scrap papers are being used for consignment cards! Phew!
Anyway, the edges were inked in roan by colorbox and adhered to a cream cardstock base. The only embellishments I used were three silver bling stones and ribbon.

The image is my new favourite by the Angel Company J and this time I used the cats for the back seat. I coloured it with my Sharpies and then placed glossy accents over the wheel bumpers and windscreen. The sentiment is also by the Angel Company.

I had to take a shot of the card from a different angle so you could see the glossy accents.

The fully complete card looks like this:

Voila! Another quick and easy peasy card! The longest part of the whole operation was the colouring J I hope you will all enjoy a Wonderful Wednesday (we’re half way through the week!)

Another pink card

Hi all!

Todays post brings another card :) I made this one for a friend  at work, her birthday was yesterday (on our public holiday). She's not a girly girl outright but she does love pretty things so I thought I'd go with what I'm most comfotable with...pink!

I used a cream cardstock for the base of the card and three differnet pattern papers for the layers:

I accessorized with pearls, bling, ribbon and paper flowers. I offset the pearls so that they wouldn't lie in a straight line:

I love the final outcome :)

It was quick and easy to make, considering the layout and ease of embellishments. Hope it inspires YOU today!

2011: A year in Review - Week 10

I almost feel like I’m getting behind on my project, I will have resolve to habitually make and post these on a Friday! That said, I enjoyed a fantastic long weekend and feel so rested J
Week 10 for me was the week that the local scrapbook store asked to design monthly card kits for them. This is such a big step in my little crafting career and it really boosted my confidence! I showcased the first kit for you all last week…. Look out world, here I come!
Here is my page, using stamping as my main technique…

The stamps are from the Angel company and they were given to me as a gift for my birthday this year from a crafting friend. I absolutely love it! The car, the girl and the balloons are all actually separate! The set has other items to stamp in the car besides the girl and the sentiments are so versatile. I could have kicked myself for not getting to use them sooner J I drew in the road with a ruler and a steadler fine tip. The image is coloured with sharpie’s and a white gel pen. I cut out two of the birdies form the leftover paper I had from the card set and placed these to look like they were hovering above the balloons.

The flap is actually a mini notecard I made a while back, I altered it by adhering a cut out tree (also from the leftover card set). Inside is my journaling about my great new adventure J

Hope you will all have a fantastic week ahead of you! And that your Monday is Montastic J

Card Set #1 - Card #5

It's arived! the last and final card of Card set #1! I must apologise for the late post, I got a little carried away with the enjoyment of my long weekend :)

Here is what the card looks like:

As you can see I had loads of fun punching out the different layers of the pattern papers! And this card just encompasses all the others with its range of paper.
The secret in the closure of the card flap lies in the ribbon...

The ribbon in fact, goes all the way round the card, and is adhered along the back. Once untied, the card opens perfectly.

There you have it ladies, it's finally complete! I can't wait to start working on next month's set :)

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend, catch you a bit later once I've finished the LO for the week's review :)

Card Set #1 - Card #4

Back to the card set today everyone! And no, you'll not be getting two of them just because its Friday :) I've decided to spoil you and showcase the last one tomorrow and then the weekly LO on Sunday! I big feit for me who never blogs over a weekend....

Anyway, here is todays card:

You'll recognise it from one I did a while back, I actually took the entire card set's inspiration from it. I must add that I am totally in love with the printed pattern!

The closure on this is a little sneaky as you may recall....

When open the card looks like this:

So Ladies, that's four down and one to go! Hope you will all have a Fantastic Friday! and that the weekend ahead is simply smashing :)

Things with Wings!

Hi everyone! What a beautiful day we have here in SA! the sun is shining and the air is crisp! No doubt I'll be frizzling in the heat later, but for now during the early morning its wonderful :)

It's the start of a new challenge this week at AiFactory and the theme this week is 'Things with Wings'!!!!!!
The DT recieved the 2inch cute owls Circle tags to work with this week and what fun we all had!

You can find this beautiful sheet here at the store. Remember that to enter you dont have to use an AiFactory image, but wouldn't it be lovely to? You could find some freebies here.

Now on to what I created for the challenge :) I took my inspiration from the fact that the printable was designed for party's.....

I made a candy pack tag! So, let's start with the most important part....the candy :) hahahaha! They're called speckled eggs and are actually little Turkish delight jellies covered in chocolate and then candy. I must tell you that I love Turkish delight and obviously anything is going to taste good covered in chocolate!

Enough of the sillyness :) I went back to my original challenge set two months ago and used scrap paper. I congratulated myself on being such a hoarder of the tiniest pieces because the light blue cardstock was just big enough for an accent on top of the brown. I punched it and then inked it and set it aside. The brown cardstock I ran through my cuttlebug in the spots and dots folder. I find this folder so versatile and constantly use it on my projects. I then layered the brown cardstock onto a deeper shade of blue than the punched piece, though I didnt ink it as I wanted the colour to pop!

I then adhered the puched blue piece and stuck a piece of ribbon on top, creating a separate bow and adhering it the the left hand side with a silver bling stone in the centre (of course). I then cut out one of the owls from the sheet with my craft scissors and stitched around its edges with my black steadler fine tip. It was then adhered to the tag base...

Hope you will all play along with us this week! Have a Terrific Thursday!

Card Set #1 - Card #3

Is it just me or is your week flying too? Usually by the time I get to the middle of the week I either feel its dragging or its flying by. This week is one of those that just seems to have flown by and it makes me wonder where on earth this year is going. My mother always said the years would fly by faster the older I got, I should have believed her! LOL!

Anyway, the third card in the set looks like this:

Its probably one of my favourites if I think of the way I managed to keep the flaps closed. And I also love the colour combo! I hope somebody out there is proud of my use of 'bright' colours this week?

Ok, so dont be decieved by the middle scallops...

here is a view of the back of the card to give you a hint...

Notice anything fishy? ... oh....it's moved now! The top flap is opening!

Tada! the open card!

Ok, humour me, I had fun showing you all that ok :) I thought I was quite brilliant at the time! I am quite fascinated by the use of belly bands and thought it was time to try one out.

Hope you enjoyed the show and that you'll be back tomorrow, it's another AiFactory challenge debut!

Have a Wacky Wednesday!

Card Set #1 - Card #2

Day 2 has arrived! As mentioned yesterday, each of the cards has the same fold, but has a different technique in the secret to keeping the flaps closed.

Todays card looks like this:

I used two different coloured ribbons to conceal the seams between the base cardstock and the flaps, they add so much more depth and colour. I also made use of my trusty stitching technique along the edges of the top flap with one of my steadler fine tips :) and stuck some Pink bling onto a few of the dots on the DP.
You will notice that I have inserted eyelets through which green cord was tied, this is in actual fact what holds the flaps closed.

The card opens after you've untied the cord :)

Hope it inspires you! Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Card set #1 - Card #1

As promised....Card set #1!

Ok Ladies, so I've started designing cards for a local store and I'm quite proud to say that my first kit will be on sale within the next week!

This months card set is centred around the 'different fold' theme and my main aim was to keep it interesting by thinking up different ways to keep the cards closed. I think I was reletively successful but leave the judging to you...

So, without further adieu, card #1:

Because I designed the set specifically, I bought papers that would match throughout the whole set, therefore no scraps were used.  The fold is pretty easy, as is all the decorating. The fancy part is the way the top flap is kept closed.

If you look closely at the above photo, you will see that the bling flower is actually adhered to the top of a curved piece of the black cardstock. This is what holds the top flap down and when open the card looks like this...

Hope it gives you ladies some inspiration :) Have a Montastic Monday!
